Description:
On offer from our personal collection is this superb stool from the Nupe peoples of Nigeria. Carved from a single piece of heavy, dense wood, this piece features 10 legs, plus multiple geometric patterns carved into the top surface. Masterfully carved, the carver managed to capture a comfortable angle across the sitting surface that harmonizes with & conforms to a person's physiognomy, making it a highly functional piece.
Overall condition: good. General wear & tear, with scrapes, abrasions, & chips. There is old damage to the bottom of one leg, with an uneven 1/2-inch piece missing. Old patina. This handsome stool shows significant age- & use-related wear, & would make an excellent addition to any serious ethnographic collection.
