Description:
On offer is a handsome double strand necklace of cowrie shells/ beads, most likely from Western Africa. We believe this may have been produced by the Yoruba people of Nigeria. This beautifully weighted necklace could be worn as is, or disassembled for use in various artistic &/or crafts projects such as jewelry-making, etc. The shells have been carefully sliced lengthwise, with a slim portion of their enclosed side removed to facilitate setting the shells against each other "back to back" in an alternating double row pattern. This would also enable the individual shells to be more easily placed against a flat platform of some sort, such as metal, fabric, etc. Overall condition of the necklace/shells is very good to excellent.
