Description:
On offer from our personal collection is a handsome stool from the Chokwe peoples of Angola. Stools represent prestige & status within the tribal community & are intended for use only by royal or higher court members of the society.
Beautifully carved from a single piece of fairly heavy, dense wood, the sitting surface has been expertly sculpted to provide a carefully scooped seat, making it as comfortable & functional as it is ornamental. Accompanied by a diamond-shaped incised motif, four faces adorn the sides of the stool, which may commemorate senior or ancestral tribal members.
Despite a few imperfections in the wood, the stool is sturdy & in very good overall condition. With signs of age & use, the stool bears a marvelous old patina. Striking display.
