Item offered:

Kotoko Bronze Equestrian Warriors
(Chad)

Description:

Depicting equestrian warriors, on offer from our personal collection is a particularly handsome bronze sculpture from the Kotoko peoples of the Chad region. Such sculptures were intended as memorial offerings.

Mounted by two riders bearing weapons -- spears & shield -- the stylized horse is clad with rather ornate garb. A heavy casting for its size, this fine lost wax sculpture is richly patinated & shows a fair amount of oxidization. And whereas typical examples of this form are quite dimunitive (ranging from 2-3 inches in height), this unusually large & detailed iteration makes a more imposing statement with its height of 7-inches. Despite a couple of minor casting imperfections, the piece is in very good overall condition & makes a striking display.
