Description:
On offer from our personal collection is a bronze maternity figure from the Bamum people of Cameroon. Metalcrafters from the Cameroon region are particularly noted for their skilled artistry & imagination, & their bronzes are highly prized.
Seated with legs crossed upon an ornate stool with reticulated base, the mother cradles a diminutive male figure with her right arm while presenting her breast with her left. Her torso is adorned with complex raised scarification patterns. Her triple-plaited hair is decorated with a prominent curled top-knot. With regal presence, her outward gaze is tender & mature.
With a rich patina, the sculpture was cast using the lost wax method. In good overall condition, the piece displays beautifully.
